Inspired by the principles of Agroecology, Rooted Oak strives to nurture the land and our community using practices that put the environment first.
With both practical experience and formal education in ecological systems, Rooted Oak Farm is founded and managed with the belief that producing good food means stewarding the natural environment that it comes from.
Utilizing a combination of modern and efficient technology as well as traditional farm philosophy, Rooted Oak Farm uses ecologically sustainable systems and practises in the understanding that true sustainability is not just financial but includes the environment, quality of life and stewardship of the land. This concept which, to us, means the soil and natural world are made better by our presence and not worse is the guiding principle which we use to manage, grow and check our decisions.

Eat with the seasons.
Eating seasonally is the best way to experience food the way it should taste! Our CSA boxes are a fantastic way to do that.
CSA or Community Supported Agriculture is a way for you to directly support our farm. Born from the concept of farmers feeding eaters directly and a shared risk philosophy, this is a relationship that is so much more than what you get from the grocery store.
Although CSA models exist today in all shapes and sizes, Rooted Oak Farm aims to provide a CSA to our members in Ottawa, Kingston and Augusta which provides high quality, long lasting fresh organic produce. Memberships are paid in advance of the season in exchange for a share of our bountiful harvest.
Unlike traditional CSAs, members have the opportunity to customize their box each week and take unlimited vacations!
We also aim to give CSA members 10% more veggies than they pay for as a big thank you for being the heart of our farm! That's about $70 on regular sized shares!
Don't want to customize your box? No worries, put your feet up and enjoy a curated selection of the best veggies coming out of our field that week. Each week members receive a newsletter with what to expect from the "Farmer's Pick Box" as well as tips and recipes to get the most out of your share!

How we farm
Here at Rooted Oak, we view our farm as a complete ecosystem. We are guests of the land and manage our vegetable and flower fields with the continued goal of improving the soil. We have a long rotation, implementing cover crops as a way to build soil, break pest cycles, aid in weed management and always have cover on the soil to reduce erosion.
OrganicWe are Certified Organic by EcoCert Canada.
|
RegenerativeWe farm with the goal of leaving our fields better than when we found them and advocate for climate friendly practices.
|
Community BasedWe prioritize supporting local businesses wherever possible, by supporting our farm you are contributing to the local economy.
|
We are invested in making local food acessible to everyone.
Solidarity SharesWe believe access to food is a human right. A Solidarity share's cost is a three way split between neighbour, eater, and farmer. We take contributions to this fund to subsidize the cost of our shares for those that need it. |
Young Professional DiscountWe love to help young(ish) folks make the choice to eat local! If you are under 26 enjoy 5% off of CSA shares! Use promo code: YOUNGPRO26 |
Donations to the Food BankWe regularly make food donations to the Loving Spoonful in Kingston. |

The farmers:
We are the folks behind growing your food! We met and fell in love while working on a farm just outside of Kingston, together we farmed across Ontario before starting our own farm on rented land in Quebec. In 2020 we purchased our very own slice of land in between Ottawa and Kingston in North Augusta. We are working on putting down roots (literally) and take great joy in growing high quality vegetables for our communities from Ottawa to Kingston.
By supporting our farm you are directly supporting the advocacy we do on our farm and off our farm. We volunteer our time with organizations that are working to support young farmers, fight for local food and find solutions to the climate crisis. Supporting such organizations with our time and money is an important component to the work of our farm. We are proud members of Farmers for Climate Solutions and Canadian Organic Growers and the National Farmers Union and Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario.
Rooted Oak farm is located on the traditional territory of the Anishnabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Oneida peoples.
